Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15. Chavez is excited to kick-off Hispanic Heritage Month on Friday, September 15th! We are inviting our school community to dress up in an outfit that represents their Hispanic Heritage. We will dress up our quad in beautiful "papel picado", a traditional Mexican craft that features colorful paper sheets with intricate cut-out details, play traditional music, play games, and leadership students will host a lunch activity for all students to enjoy.
Throughout the month, during our morning announcements, our Dual Language Immersion students will highlight the contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. Mrs. Stevenson, will do traditional Mexican tile art with her art students while Mrs. Flores opens her classroom for students to enjoy making traditional papel picado during a lunch period. Students will also get to enjoy a Hispanic book collection in our library, curated by our Library Media Clerk.
We look forward to all the small and big ways that our school community will come together to help us celebrate this month. We are so excited!
